The billiards championship once again was a success. Thank you to all who participated and assisted with the running of the event. Congratulations must go to the champion for 2015 which is Paul Beggs from the Ballina RSL Snooker Club, well done!! This wraps up another year of the FNCSA which I feel has been quite successful and hope that all of you continue to not only support your association but also all clubs so we can continue to have a strong sport in our area for years to come.

Teams Event 2015
Sunday 2nd August 2015
Greetings Everyone,
The annual teams event was played at Ballina RSL Club on Sunday with some great snooker matches and a lot of fun rolled into one. It was great to see as many players as possible participating including those who traveled from Lismore and Casino. It was a very special event as Club Banora's winning streak of 19 YEARS and hoping to make 20 YEARS was destroyed from a very competitive and strong team from Ballina RSL. Well done to Ballina for an excellent achievement from all players involved!! We must however recognize Club Banora for being champions for such a long time and for putting up a fight to the very end of the comp. I would like to thank Des Turner, Tony Rea and others who helped with the running of the comp whilst I was busy. Also to Bill Thurston & Paul Douglas from Ballina RSL and Rod Smith from Club Banora for taking up places in the Lismore/Casino combined team as this was a great help to them.
I was pleased by the standard set by all players and hope all of you enjoyed the day. It is vital that we support not only our own club but also all other clubs in our association to ensure our sport NEVER DIES. What can you do? Help your club out either by being on the committee, assisting with competitions, attending events or just supporting our wonderful sport.
I will unfortunately not see any of you at the FNCSA Billiards in October so good luck to anyone that enters.
Thank You,
Toby Towner

Doubles Championship 2015
Sunday 5th July 2015
Members and supporters,
In the attachment below you will find the results of yet one more great day of snooker. Our thanks must go to the players who entered the 2015 event and also to the Lismore Workers Club for hosting this event & to their Snooker Club members who assisted the event. Numbers were down this year, only last week it did appear that it would not go ahead with only four pairs of doubles, (or moved to the club with all but one pair) even if some of the players did drive the long way to Lismore.
But a few emails with “Some Hard Words “ managed to get a field of good players who played the sport in the way it should be played, with a good standard of dress code in place, well done to all. Please remember to enter early from now on in okay.
The winning pair were the defending Champions Ray Wilcher & Darren Harris and once again they held off a very strong challenge. Also it was great to see so many of the defeated players and some local members stay to watch the finals. Now do not forget the Southern Cross Snooker Classic 2015 Ballina Tournament, remember support your local sport, local sport can mean a small drive of around one hour and in the year 2015 that is not long.

Des Turner

Handicap Singles Championship 2015
Sunday 17th May 2015
Firstly, I would like to thank all players that participated in the championship this Sunday. I watched some amazing and brilliant snooker played on the day and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Brian Green was victorious on the day defeating Ray Wilcher 2-0 in the final so congrats Brian!! Also, cheers to Ray for not only making the final but also gaining two high breaks in a match I refereed which were 30 & 40 break, well done!!
I would also unfortunately like to make a comment on Code of Conduct. A player was in breach of this on Sunday with poor conduct towards their opponent which is not acceptable. If you have an issue with a player please consult with the FNCSA committe in the first instance, then if an official complaint is needed to be made we will take appropriate action as under our rules. Also, a minor breach with the Dress Code occurred as well but I spoke to the player and found they had an acceptable reason for the breach. I did however warn the player that a second breach would not be acceptable and they would need to ensure in future to be appropriately attired for our events or face possible forfeiture from events.
Apart from that the event went well. Once again thank you to all who participated.

'Mark Jackson' Champion of Champions Event 2015
The Mark Jackson Champion of Champions Event for 2015 has been played (and won) at the Ballina RSL club on Saturday 21st March 2015. The winner was Brian Roebeck (representing Club Banora). He beat Peter Speeding (representing Casino) in the final on the very last ball with a great comeback in the last frame leaving Peter to dwell on what could have been. Ballina was hosting the event (as Paul Beggs had won the title previously), but he was eliminated by Brian Roebeck in the semi final after having a very ordinary day with the cue in the round robin phase. Brian finished first and drew Paul (the fourth qualifier) while in the other semi, Jeff Lawn (representing Lismore Workers Club) who had finished second (to his own surprise) was bungled out (3:1) by a much more solid performance from Peter Speeding setting up a great final (as both players were hitting form at the right end of the day). And although Peter lead by quite a margin late in the fifth and deciding frame, Brian refused to give up. Clearing most of the remaining balls in that last frame, he stole victory on the very last ball.
Congratulations to Brian! And, commiserations to Peter! There's always next year!
The 2016 event will be hosted by Club Banora (likely around the same time next year) and someone will have to try to steal the crown from Brian...
